Readability Scores
The Flesch-Kincaid readability score measures how easy your text is to read. Aim for a score of 60-70 (easily understood by 13-15 year olds) for general web content. Academic writing can be lower.
Improving Readability
- Use short sentences (average 15-20 words)
- Prefer common words over complex ones
- Avoid jargon unless your audience expects it
- Use active voice more than passive
- Break up long paragraphs
Web Accessibility
- Use proper heading hierarchy (H1 > H2 > H3)
- Add alt text to images
- Use sufficient color contrast
- Make links descriptive ("Read the full guide" not "click here")
- Use plain language when possible
