Turning Good Writing into Great Writing

The Revision Mindset

Revision literally means "seeing again." Put your draft aside for at least a few hours (ideally overnight) before revising. Fresh eyes catch problems that tired eyes miss.

Big-Picture Revision

  • Does your thesis clearly state your argument?

  • Does every paragraph support your thesis?

  • Are paragraphs in the most logical order?

  • Have you addressed potential counterarguments?

  • Is your evidence convincing and well-integrated?

Paragraph-Level Revision

  • Does each paragraph have a clear topic sentence?

  • Are transitions smooth between paragraphs?

  • Is there enough evidence for each claim?

Sentence-Level Editing

  • Eliminate wordiness and redundancy

  • Vary sentence length and structure

  • Replace vague words with specific ones

  • Check for grammar, spelling, and punctuation

Use our grammar checker and proofreader to catch surface-level errors after you've completed your content revision.
